The University of Brighton is a world leader in environmental pollution and management research, particularly in relation to water, sanitation and hygiene, air quality and waste management. From developing and applying new microbially-based techniques for tracking sources of water pollution, to understanding the ways in which air quality alerts are best communicated to at-risk sectors of the population, our staff and PhD students are at the cutting edge of society-environment research. We are also working to improve how we manage our resources through waste reduction, reuse, recycling and energy recovery. As an environmental pollution and management PhD student at Brighton, you will be able to draw on research approaches from a variety of cognate fields, including civil engineering, environmental science, ecology and geography. You can develop research plans and apply methods involving both quantitative and qualitative data, supported by appropriate research methods training. PhD students form an integral part of SET and take an active role in a range of intellectual and social activities within the School. All postgraduate students working on environmental management topics are integrated into one or more of our Research Centres or Research Groups (see below). These centres and groups provide you with opportunities to present work in progress and network with other researchers.
