International students only This course provides comprehensive training for bricklaying students and covers all practical and theoretical aspects of the trade. A bricklayer joins bricks or blocks (large bricks) using mortar, which is usually a mixture of cement, lime and sand. While studying bricklaying and blocklaying at Holmesglen, you will receive hands-on training from industry experienced teachers. You will train in excellent training facilities, acknowledged as the best in Victoria, and gain practical experience on full scale projects.Much of a bricklayer's work is straightforward, but often requires skill and judgement. You must understand working plans and specifications of buildings and be able to apply basic mathematical calculations, operate brick cutting machines and carry out repairs.Bricklayers also do more complicated work, such as constructing arches and building fireplaces.
