Learn to work with diverse learners, understand cultural contexts, and collaborate with families, teachers, and the community.<br>Focused on culturally competent school counseling and social justice, the School Counseling, M.S. helps you become a compassionate, effective advocate for the academic, social, and emotional success of pre-K–12 students.<br>You’ll gain a broad foundation on prevalent topics in school counseling today, including leadership, group counseling, working with special needs students, college counseling, and school violence prevention. You’ll also acquire the critical experience you need through a practicum and internships under the mentorship of a tenured school counselor in a pre-K–12 school setting.<br>We also offer a Bilingual Extension, which can be completed simultaneously with your school counseling degree. The extension includes a minimum of six additional credits, as well as bilingual practicum experience to prepare you to work specifically with bilingualELL students and their families. NYSED certification will require documented proficiency in the target language by independently passing the New York State Bilingual Assessment (BEA). You can complete your degree and launch your new career path in two years full-time or three years on a part-time basis.
