The Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is a 60 semester hour minimum master's degree program of study that is intended for students who seek licensure in Michigan as professional counselors and employment in community-based mental health centers, hospitals and other treatment centers, and private practice. You will study core areas of professional counseling including life and career development, research and assessment, basic and advanced counseling skills, individual and group counseling processes, counseling theories, crisis intervention, cross-cultural counseling, diagnosis and treatment planning, and ethical, professional and legal issues in counseling. In addition, students will engage in rigorous supervised counseling experiences which include a 100 clock-hour supervised practicum and 600 clock-hour supervised counseling internship experience.
