Throughout this program, you'll explore how different disciplines approach inquiry, examine multiple styles of learning, and incorporate cultural diversity into your teaching. The knowledge and skills you'll pick up will enable you to become an effective educator and work with diverse learners across a variety of settings. UTSA is approved by the State Board for Educator Certification to recommend students for teaching certification in various baccalaureate degree areas. Students pursuing Grades 4–8 ESL certification will complete a program of study that focuses on the content areas of reading, language arts and social studies. The minimum number of semester credit hours required for the IDS degree with Grades 4–8 ESL certification is 129–132, at least 39 of which must be at the upper-division level.
