Study critical issues in educating students with mild/moderate and moderate/intensive needs. Youll learn to promote full inclusivity through principles of Universal Design for Learning, Presumption of Competence, Person-Centered Planning, and Self-Advocacy. Develop competence in designing effective teaching and learning strategies and cultivating a learning environment that promotes cooperation and socialization. As a special education major at Miami, you will take courses in differentiating instruction and universal design for learning. Miami's special education program leads to a Bachelor of Science in Education with Ohio dual licensure in Mild to Moderate and Moderate to Intensive Disabilities. With an Inclusive Special Education degree and a license, you'll be able to educate all children who qualify for services under the federal special education law. Positions in Transition Planning, Case Management, and other possibilities exist as well. Additionally, students who obtain additional education may choose to pursue roles in educational administration.<br><br>Many school-aged children in the United States need accommodations and modifications to fully benefit from the standard curriculum offered in schools. Because of physical, mental, behavioral, learning, or sensory differences, these students require special services to help them learn to their maximum capacity in inclusive environments. Inclusive special education is designed to recognize these differences and to implement elements of Universal Design for Learning and to develop individualized instructional plans. This program prepares you for licensure as a special education teacher, also known as Intervention Specialist, in Ohio Public Schools from kindergarten through grade 12.
