The instructional technology specialist certification program is for individuals who wish to apply their skills and interests in technology to a school setting. Students completing this program and passing required state tests can be certified as instructional technology specialists for grades K-12 in Pennsylvania. The program focuses on the improvement of the learning process and instruction through the use of appropriate instructional media. The program prepares students to diffuse and manage instructional technology, support instructional technology planning efforts, integrate technology into the curriculum, teach media and technological literacy, establish partnerships to support the use of technology, and establish priorities related to technology. Graduates of the program take positions such as director of instructional technology, coordinator of computer education, director of computer laboratories, distance education coordinator, director of instructional resources and media, and technological literacy instructor.
