The Graduate School requires a minimum 3.0 GPA (from applicants' undergraduate/bachelor's degree program) for admission to graduate level programs at MSU. However, applicants with a GPA lower than 3.0 may be considered for provisional admission.
Send official college-level transcripts from ALL higher education institutions attended prior to Michigan State University. If your degree has not yet been conferred from your current institution, have your institution send your current transcript to date.
Official transcripts must be sent directly from each degree-granting institution. Many schools offer electronic submission of official transcripts through an online service such as the National Student Clearinghouse. Contact the institutions you attended to confirm their required process. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure the submission and receipt of official transcripts to the program.
SAA personal statement
Submit a 750-1000 word statement answering the following questions:
What experiences led to your interest in pursuing a career in student affairs?
How have your qualities, experiences, and skills prepared you to be a strong candidate for the SAA M.A. Program?
How will the Michigan State University SAA M.A. Program help you meet your personal and professional goals?
Three letters of recommendation
All applicants must include letters of recommendation. At least one letter must be an academic recommendation from a faculty member who can speak to the applicant's ability to excel in graduate study. The remaining letters should be academic or professional recommendations from individuals who can speak to the characteristics, skills, and abilities the applicant has that will support their success in the student affairs field.
A resume detailing professional and/or paraprofessional experience
Include a resume that describes experience such as leadership roles/involvement in on-campus organizations or professional employment demonstrating a commitment to the student affairs field.

The master's degree program in student affairs administration is designed for persons who plan to be employed in this field within institutions of higher education. The program is designed to enable students to achieve an understanding of educational administration, higher education, and student affairs administration. Course work in the major integrates theory and practice. Courses can be chosen to reflect a student's interest in administration and leadership, teaching and learning, or adult development, and to build skills in academic advisement, training and development, communications, or counseling.
