The Gordon T. and Ellen West College of Education offers teacher certification for elementary, secondary, all-level teachers, and a B.A. and B.S. in Sport and Leisure Studies. Students who wish to become elementary teachers (Early Childhood - Grade 6, 4-8 Generalist, Grades 4-8) graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (BSIS). Students who wish to become secondary teachers (Grades 7-12) or all-level teachers (Grades K-12) pursue a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music, or Bachelor of Business Administration with a major and/or minor in appropriate teaching fields. The English Department at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas offers an English major leading to bachelors and master's degrees. The department also offers English as a minor field of study with either a traditional emphasis in literature or an emphasis in writing (technical and/or creative writing). Our students explore everything from Anglophone and world literature, composition and rhetoric, technical writing, critical theory, cultural studies, and creative writing. Teacher certification in English, Language Arts, and Reading for grades 4 through 8 or for grades 8 through 12 is available in conjunction with the West College of Education.
