The secondary education program at Widener University offers students the opportunity to major in a specific subject in the College of Arts and Sciences while also becoming certified to teach grades 7-12. Certification is available in the following fields: Biology, Chemistry, Earth and space science, English, French, Mathematics, Physics, Social Studies (Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology) and Spanish. Teachers at the secondary level need a strong foundation in their content area, in addition to the know-how to teach it to adolescents. That is why at Widener, students receive a degree by selecting a major through the College of Arts & Sciences, but also stay closely connected to the Center for Education where they hone their teaching skills and are guided through the requirements of certification.
