Elementary school teachers must demonstrate knowledge and excitement about content across the curriculum. The elementary education initial licensure MEd program prepares students to become Massachusetts state licensed elementary school teachers for grades 1-6. The program is designed for both people new to the field of education as well as for people who have previously worked in school settings (e.g., paraprofessionals). The coursework provides a strong foundation in theoretical, pedagogical, and conceptual knowledge and practice. An innovative mixture of coursework and field-based learning, our master of education (MEd) in elementary education initial licensure program is accredited by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and prepares teacher candidates to teach in grades 1-6. Our teacher candidates are trained to become elementary school teachers who can create and facilitate equitable learning environments for children in public schools. They learn how to design and implement culturally responsive lessons manage classrooms of diverse learners, respond to the needs of all students and increase equitable access to learning for all students. One or two-year program options. A course sequence designed to obtain an initial license and a master's degree in one year.
