The BSEd in Middle Grade Education is grounded in the belief that outstanding teachers are prepared for the classroom when they participate in a program that emphasizes high academic achievement, the importance of each child as an individual, and an understanding of pertinent theories of learning and education. In this program, students participate in experiences in school settings beginning in their freshman year. These field experiences are designed to develop enduring understandings, knowledge, and skills for middle school teaching and rigorously prepare students for the one-year internship, the capstone experience of the program. As a part of this program, students have extensive opportunities to work with young adolescents through a wide range of learning experiences in school and community settings.
