Learn to lead and manage in the unique world of higher education. The Master of Science in Education in Higher Education Administration (MSEd-HEA) is ideally structured to meet the needs of people currently working in higher education who seek to advance their role and responsibilities. At the same time, the program welcomes full-time students and those new to higher education. Whether you are currently in the field or looking to change careers, the program offers the framework needed to succeed in today's ever changing higher education domain. Graduates pursue careers as executives, directors, coordinators, and analysts of programs and services on college campuses and beyond. HEA courses are delivered week nights on the Baruch College campus in the fall, spring, and summer sessions, with additional online options available. The degree requires 36 credits (or 39 credits for those without administrative experience and required to complete an internship). Students may begin their studies in Fall/Spring semester and can complete courses full-time (9 or more credits) or part-time (less than 9 credits). Courses are taught by full-time public affairs professors with extensive knowledge of higher education scholarship and by adjunct professors who hold current high-level positions as college administrators of programs and services.

Students have two options for completing the program: The generalist program provides students with the skills and knowledge for the management of higher education, with an emphasis on student services. Courses are completed in the history and structure of higher education, student services, research methods, finance, and management. Elective courses include collective bargaining, student development, and community college administration. A capstone course culminates the curriculum. The institutional research and assessment specialization builds upon the core and capstone requirements of the generalist program by incorporating research and analysis requirements and adding elective courses in institutional research, program evaluation, and budgeting. The specialization is grounded in the idea that an in-depth knowledge of research and data analysis is important to wide variety of college administrators. Colleges and universities are under continued and mounting pressure to make sound but difficult decisions in such areas as enrollment management, faculty productivity, strategic planning, compliance, outcomes assessment and institutional effectiveness. Institutional research is also maturing as a profession, and the field requires an emerging work force that has been specifically trained in the analysis of higher education data and issues.
