Master of Science in Education - Early Elementary Education with PA Grades PreK-4 Certification
课程简介
Teaching in grades PreK - 4 is a multifaceted enterprise and we acknowledge that preparation for teaching in urban contexts presents its own complexities. The UTAP PreK-4 certification program attends to these complexities through its program of study (comprising of fieldwork, courses, and academic/career workshops) within its thematic five-term school year, spanning 10-months. Apprentice-teachers learn how to address the needs and nuances of the whole child. Our program provides a robust foundation in the four core content areas: Math, Literacy, Science and Social Studies, from the position that high-quality content instruction is key. Teaching the whole child means apprentices need experience with child development. Courses are centered around restorative justice, the implications of trauma, culturally-responsive classroom libraries and math assessment through the lens of social justice, as these influence classroom discourse and engagement, management and instructional planning and implementation. The Urban Teaching Apprenticeship master's program is a practice-focused program that prepares new teachers to enact student-centered learning and to use innovative teaching tools in urban schools, premised on the belief that children are curious, creative, and competent. Coursework and intensive field experiences build on content expertise and support the development of pedagogical content knowledge. Teachers leave the program inspired to use the power of teaching to deepen student learning, transform schools, and increase educational equity.
