Entry into this course requires:
- A bachelor degree in Computing or Information Technology or a related subject area, with a grade average at level 7 of B or better in the final year of full-time study, or equivalent part-time study; or
- A Postgraduate Certificate in Computing or Information Technology or a related subject area; or
- An equivalent qualification as considered by the Centre's Postgraduate Programme Committee.
Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 6.5 in the academic band, with no individual band score lower than 6.0; or
- TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) score of 79 (with a writing score of 21)
- TOEFL Paper-based Test (pBT) score of 590 (with an essay score of 5.5 TWE)
- Pearson Test of English (Academic) score of 58 with no band score lower than 50

The Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Information Technology enables students to undertake an advanced programme of study, covering a wide range of areas to further their academic subject area knowledge of information technology and research skills to obtain employment or advance their careers. Graduates of this programme (depending on their previous education, experience, and choice of electives) could work in positions of responsibility in business analysis, business intelligence, data analytics, information security and forensics, information technology management, project management, software development, and software quality assurance. Graduates may also apply to enrol in the Master of Applied Information Technology, with up to 90 cross-credits.
