The curriculum offers an introduction to all of the visual arts professions offered by the School of Art and Design and helps prepare students to choose an undergraduate course of study. Our robust printmaking program will prepare you to pursue a career as a visual artist or in a related field. At NIU, you will learn printmaking in the following formats: Intaglio and relief, Lithography, Serigraphy. Studying printmaking prepares you to pursue individual creativity and technical competency in print-related media as it is practiced and utilized in a contemporary art context, encouraging interdisciplinary exploration. You will learn specific techniques working with stone, aluminum, photographic plates and stenciling. A graduate program is also available for you to further your printmaking study.
