The B.S. degree provides students with six options: general physics, astrophysics, engineering physics, medical physics, optical biophysics or physics education. The mission objectives of the Department of Physics and Astronomy are: to recruit outstanding and diverse students at the graduate and undergraduate levels and prepare them for successful careers in physics and related fields, to maintain active research programs which involve both graduate and undergraduate students, to provide quality instruction, including the writing of textbooks for a national and international readership, to build close ties with high‐tech industries in order to foster research collaborations and promote economic development at the state and local level.
