Candidates successfully completing this program of study are recommended by the College at Old Westbury to New York State for initial certification as Adolescence Education (grades 7-12) teachers. The School of Education Science Education coordinator is responsible for advising and approving students as they progress through the School of Education program. Students should also have an advisor from the Chemistry and Physics Department.<br>The faculty of the Adolescence Education Department is deeply committed to educational leadership and works in partnership with schools and school districts across Long Island. Through field experiences and student teaching, our students are expected to become involved in these teaching centers and in the activities of the department.<br>All programs of our department are engaged in professional development. Periodic reviews of student progress including portfolio review are part of that professional preparation as are long-term personal/professional relationships.
