More than 800 million people worldwide don't have access to safe drinking water. Energy resources are being stretched to the limit. New diseases and new forms of old diseases are appearing around the world. At the center of these and many other world problems is chemistry, which seeks solutions to global problems. Get results. As an undergraduate chemistry major, youll get hands-on experience working in organic, biochemical, analytical, physical and inorganic chemical research labs, giving you the opportunity not just to test current theories but to make new discoveries in the field of chemistry. Chemistry majors also work with their professors on cutting edge research from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and other federal and foundation sources. These projects encompass important chemical and biochemical problems, and many faculty are able to provide summer research opportunities for undergraduates. Our chapter of Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society has been recognized by the organization for its excellent chapter events, including career development activities and professional networking.
