Preference is given to candidates with undergraduate majors in chemistry or chemical engineering including mathematics through calculus. GRE only for graduates of non-U.S. universities, with advanced test, strongly recommended.

An overall score of 80 or above (82 for teaching assistantship consideration), AND Minimum scores in the following areas: Reading: 19; Writing: 18; Listening: 17; Speaking: 18 (the suggested minimum speaking score for a teaching assistantship is 20).
Other scores that may be accepted in place of TOEFL scores (please check with your department):
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): All scores must be sent directly to URI. Required minimum score of 6.5, AND minimum scores in the following areas: Reading: 6.5; Writing: 6.5; Listening: 6.5; Speaking: 6.5 (The suggested minimum speaking score for a teaching assistantship is 7).
Duolingo English Test: Required minimum score of 105 (Score of 110 for a teaching assistantship)
Pearson Test of English: Required minimum scores are Reading 53, Writing 59, Listening 47, and Speaking 47 (62 for international teaching assistants)
Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR): Required minimum score of B2

课程简介
Develop the skills needed to conduct specialized laboratory research in preparation for careers in highly competitive chemical and biological industries. The key component of a graduate degree in chemistry is research. That is why URI's program is designed to enable incoming graduate students to excel in the research laboratory early in their graduate careers. Course work is kept to a minimum, to allow time for mentored and independent research.<br><br>During their first year in residence all graduate students are required to take 10 credits of interdisciplinary courses: Chemical Safety (CHM 500), Chemical Reactions and Mechanisms (CHM 505), Chemical Analysis (CHM 506), and Chemical Structure and Material Property (CHM 507). The URI Department of Chemistry does not require incoming students to take placement exams. Instead, this interdisciplinary curriculum is designed to provide the foundation for all graduate students to engage in modern research.<br><br>After their first semester, graduate students will have chosen their advisor and will begin research. They only need to take two additional courses.
