Applicants who qualify for entry by other means must demonstrate competency in mathematics (algebra) and physics at least to level 2 or equivalent. This could be:
A completed or partially completed New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (NZDE) or National Diploma in Engineering (NDE), or
Any other recognised certificate or national certificate containing mathematics and physics to the required level.
IELTS (Academic) 6.0 overall with all bands 5.5 or higher, or equivalent, TOEFL IBT – 80.

NCEA - Overall
Require NCEA level 3 certificate which consists of 80 credits, including at least 60 credits at level 3 or higher. Can include up to 20 credits at level 2.
CIE - Overall
A minimum of 120 points on the UCAS Tariff¹ at A or AS level from any subjects which are broadly equivalent to the subjects in the NCEA approved subject list.
IB - IB Diploma with minimum 24 points

The Building Engineering major in the Bachelor of Engineering Technology focuses on asset and facilities management, building surveying technology and construction safety engineering. Building engineering encompasses core engineering technology knowledge and skills related to construction. You can choose from three pathways: Asset and Facilities Management, Building Surveying Technology and Construction Safety Engineering. This major is only offered at the AUT South Campus. Most papers last one semester and are worth 15 points. You must complete 120 points each year (360 points for the entire degree). You also need to complete a minimum of 600 hours of planned supervised work placement to graduate. This work experience exposes you to real engineering practices and management systems and helps you build engineering networks.
