Students are required to complete international qualifications equivalent to New Zealand NCEA Level 1.
Note: If applicants have undertaken a qualification or examination other than NCEA (e.g. International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examination), NMIT will assess this for academic entry equivalence.
Alternative requirements
Applicants (including those over 20 years of age) who are unable to evidence that they meet Academic Entry Requirements, but who can demonstrate acquired skills for tertiary study gained through study, work and/or life experience, may be approved for alternative entry by the Curriculum Manager or delegate.
English language requirements
IELTS test: General or Academic score of 5 with no band score lower than 5. TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): Score of 35 (with a writing score of 14). PTE (Academic) score of 36 with no band score lower than 36; Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First or B2 First for Schools with a score of 154. No less than 154 in each skill. OET: Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests. NZCEL - Level 3 (General). Language Cert - B1 Achiever International ESOL Written (LRW) PASS with no less than 25/50 in each skill and Spoken (S) PASS.

Students will be introduced to all aspects of onboard life and a wide range of skills, including hospitality service. These will prepare you for anything that life as a superyacht crew member can throw at you. It's a great way to transition into hospitality and tourism.<br>With its busy port and thriving boat culture, Nelson is a great place to gain the skills in seamanship and hospitality you need to work in the global superyacht industry.<br>You've probably watched 'Below deck' and wished you too could be on board a luxury yacht and dipping your toes in the Pacific, Mediterranean or Bahamas.<br>There's a demand for crew members in this industry, so it's time to stop dreaming and get your ticket.<br>During this twelve-week programme, you will gain an introduction to all aspects of onboard life and a wide range of international qualifications that will prepare you for anything life as a superyacht crew member can throw at you.
