Petroleum Engineers are at the forefront of ensuring that we have an abundant supply of oil and gas, in a safe and environmentally sustainable manner.We are the only University in Scotland that offers an undergraduate Petroleum Engineering degree and also a general engineering curriculum.<br>Petroleum Engineering is concerned with the exploration for and extraction of hydrocarbons, e.g. crude oil and natural gas. Petroleum Engineers use creative and imaginative knowledge of petroleum geology, reservoir behaviour as well as fundamental engineering principles to develop effective and safe solutions for the exploration, recovery and transportation of hydrocarbon products trapped underground, onshore or offshore, and in very challenging environment.<br>Petroleum engineers work with geologists and other engineers to ensure the safe recovery, processing, transportation, transmission, and utilisation of petroleum products often in challenging environments. In addition to the technical petroleum engineering skills, petroleum engineers learn skills in project management, project economics and environmental impact assessment. It is unsurprising therefore that petroleum engineers are highly sought after by both energy and non-energy companies worldwide, and are amongst the best-paid compared to other engineering disciplines.<br>Aberdeen is internationally recognised as a major international energy city and is leading the way in applying world-class technical expertise to the energy transition challenge.
