The MEng (Hons) Electrical Engineering (Power and Energy) degree offers students the opportunity to specialise in the fields of power systems and energy on both a large and small scale, exploring the generation of electricity for modern society. Throughout the course, there are opportunities to engage in hands-on projects and benefit from learning in an environment where electrical engineering research is being conducted by our academics.Strong links exist between our Mechanical and Electrical degrees, aiming to ensure graduates gain an excellent cross-disciplinary focus and an excellent understanding of engineering. The first year offers a foundation in engineering theory and practice, and the opportunity to develop fundamental knowledge and refine important technical and workshop skills.After the first year, students are expected to specialise in electrical power and energy, alongside core electrical engineering modules. MEng students complete an additional year and can study advanced subjects, such as power systems for aerospace, marine and automotive applications, advanced power conversion and high voltages systems. Throughout the course there are opportunities for students to practise and develop their engineering skills on real-life problems through project work.
