A bachelor’s degree in engineering. Most of our graduate students have a background in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline (e.g., Chemical and Mechanical). Many successful students in our programs have backgrounds in a variety of engineering disciplines.
Applicants without a degree in a related field will need to take required background courses to bridge the non-engineering gap.
GPA 3.0 or above:
An overall GPA of at least 3.0/4.0.
IELTS scores with an overall band score of at least 6.5. Minimum test scores for each section are listed below: Listening 6.5, Reading 6.5, Writing 6.5, Speaking 6.5
TOEFL with a total score of at least 80 on the Internet-based Test (iBT), and with minimum test scores for each section of: Listening 18 points, Reading 18 points, Writing 18 points.
Computer-based TOEFL scores must be 213 or higher (with at least 17 on three sections and no section score below 13). The paper-based test requires a score of 550 or higher (with scores of 50 on at least two of the three sections and no section score below 45).

Computing and Systems is a formal interdisciplinary program with faculty addressing problems throughout civil and environmental engineering. We offer a suite of graduate and undergraduate courses including civil engineering systems, computer methods and applications, numerical methods, high performance computing, evolutionary computation, stochastic modeling, complex adaptive systems, information technology and modeling, inverse modeling. Our graduates pursue careers at traditional firms, government agencies, national laboratories, and universities, as well as at companies such as SAS, Cisco, IBM, Microsoft, GE, and Intel.
