The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering offers an outstanding program for graduate study leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. A professional master's degree (MChE), involving only course work, is also offered.<br>At Rice, the PhD is primarily a research degree. Graduate education is aimed at developing each student's ability to conduct independent creative scientific research. Our graduate curriculum provides a sound understanding of engineering fundamentals so that our students are versatile, a mastery of engineering tools so that our students are productive, and clear goals of professional development so that our students are successful.<br>The professional master's (M.Ch.E.) program in chemical engineering at Rice offers a non-thesis professional degree intended to better prepare students for a career in the field of chemical engineering. The curriculum is designed for recent graduates with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering to complete in two semesters (Fall and Spring).
