This program prepares you for a career as a ship's navigation officer in the commercial marine industry. You build on your navigation training and sea experience with a focus on three functions at the management level: marine navigation, cargo handling and stowage and ship operations and safety. You learn the theoretical and applied principles for how to manage functions that are required of a deck officer: planning and managing voyages, coordinating search and rescue operations, establishing effective watchkeeping procedures and developing your abilities to maneuver and handle a ship in all conditions. You develop your knowledge for how to plan safe loading, stowage and unloading of transport goods and the carriage of dangerous goods. You also develop effective leadership skills and knowledge of control procedures that ensure safe operations and care for persons on board your ship.
