Mechanical engineering is perhaps the most diverse of the engineering professions. It opens doors to opportunities in manufacturing, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, transportation, automotive, aerospace, power generation and many other industries. A degree in mechanical engineering from Gonzaga University provides you with a broad range of career opportunities from design to manufacturing and from working in large teams such as is common in the aerospace industry to working in small start-up endeavors. Our program prepares you for this versatility by providing a broad foundation in a variety of mathematical, scientific and engineering concepts. You’ll study topics such as chemistry, physics, mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, materials, manufacturing, design, control theory, experimentation and economics. In addition, courses and lab experiences provide practical skills in mathematical techniques and computer tools such as computer-aided design (CAD) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). You will also study and practice the design process through hands-on project experiences starting in your sophomore year and extending into your senior design project. Recent graduates of our program have pursued a variety of careers ranging from employment in the aerospace industry, to service opportunities, to graduate studies.
