MU Civil and Environmental Engineering has a long-standing commitment to provide quality undergraduate and graduate education. Civil engineering, considered one of the oldest engineering disciplines, encompasses many specialties. The major ones are construction, environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation, and water resources engineering. We offer bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs.Graduate programs offered in Engineering prepare students for leadership positions in academia, research and advanced practice engineering careers. Major program areas include structural mechanics, structural engineering and materials, geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering, environmental engineering, hydrology and water resources engineering and transportation engineering.PhD programs are committee administered and tailored to fit the needs of each individual student. A minimum of 72 credit hours, including the credit hours taken during the MS program beyond the bachelor's degree, are required. Students who received the MS degree from other than MU may transfer up to 30 hours of credit from their MS degree. The candidate must pass a comprehensive examination and submit and defend a dissertation at a final oral examination.Because the quality of a community is directly related to the quality of its transportation system, your function as a transportation engineer will be to move people, goods, and materials safely and efficiently.
