Graduate admission to the department of civil and environmental engineering is highly selective. The graduate admissions committee considers the entire application package in making admission decisions. We carefully review each applicant's academic transcript, GRE scores, TOEFL or IELTS scores (if applicable), personal statement, letters of recommendation, and resume. Students with a non-CE undergraduate background will be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis, assuming they've met certain core requirements and have demonstrated competency in the senior-level courses of their undergraduate major. Please contact the professor you're interested in working with to inquire about admission if you're an interested, non-CE student.

Lehigh has internationally recognized graduate research and education programs in Structural Engineering. Graduates of these programs have the knowledge and analytical problem-solving capabilities to lead and innovate within multi-disciplinary teams for technologically complex environments such as large structural systems of the civil infrastructure. Sponsored research is conducted in the following areas: Advanced Structural Materials and Systems, Earthquake Resistant Structures, Infrastructure Hazard Mitigation, Intelligent Infrastructure Systems, Simulation, Measurement and Evaluation of New and In-service Structures, and Infrastructure Reliability, Maintenance and Life-Cycle Performance. Lehigh students work in structural testing facilities that are among the largest in North America, enabling research in earthquake engineering, fiber-reinforced composites, fatigue and fracture, development of smart structures, shipbuilding, and life-cycle engineering. Our Advanced Technology for Large Structural Systems (ATLSS) Engineering Research Center is home to the largest three-dimensional test bed in the U.S. ATLSS also features a real-time, multi-dimensional earthquake testing facility and conducts seismic research as part of the George E. Brown, Jr. Network Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) Program. Other specialized facilities, such the 5-million-pound universal hydraulic testing machine in Fritz Laboratory, round out Lehigh's unique research capabilities in structural engineering.
