Letters of Recommendation - Three letters of recommendation are required (one letter of recommendation for internal University of Rochester undergraduates applying to the 4+1 Option). Recommenders will be contacted by email and provided a link where they can upload their letter of recommendation.
Standardized Tests - Applicants are urged to take required tests early so that the results can be considered in conjunction with the candidate's academic records.
The institute code number for GRE is 2928 and TOEFL reports is 7267. The GRE department code for chemical engineering is 1001 and the TOEFL department code for chemical engineering is 64.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) - Submission of GRE scores is encouraged but not required. Applicants taking the GRE should report the verbal, quantitative, and analytical scores and percentiles. Average scores for students accepted into the program are in the 80th percentile in all categories. Subject tests are not required.
A minimum TOEFL score of 620 (paper-based test), 260 (computer-based test), or 95 (Internet test) is required for admittance. A minimum IELTS band score of 7.0 is required for admittance.

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Rochester develops technologies, materials, and processes that benefit society in the areas of clean energy, sustainable process engineering, nanotechnology, and human health. The department was established in 1915 as one of the first chemical engineering programs in the country and has a storied history. Contributions from Rochester faculty, students, and alumni have had global impact. We specialize in applying chemical engineering to materials science and artificial intelligence to solve the grand challenges of the 21st century.<br>We offer a first-class engineering education. Students learn how to apply fundamental engineering and scientific principles to design processes for the production, transformation and transport of energy, chemicals and materials. We provide training in emerging technologies and computer programming to tackle humanity's major challenges, with the aim to develop the next generation of leaders in chemical engineering. We leverage our strong relationships to industry and academic leaders to create a talent pipeline for a modern workforce.<br>The Department of Chemical Engineering offers graduate programs leading to PhD and MS degrees in chemical engineering. Students in our department participate in groundbreaking, multidisciplinary research and education in an innovative environment. Students can join one of our distinguished and well-funded research groups and benefit from close interactions with our faculty, through carefully designed courses and cutting-edge research projects.<br>Our faculty value interdisciplinary research, giving students the opportunity to collaborate with other departments like chemistry, optics, biomedical engineering, and materials science. The department and the university offer state-of-the-art research equipment and computer facilities to perform high-impact research.<br>An MS degree in chemical engineering from the University of Rochester can open up opportunities to higher-level professional positions or to continue on to a PhD.<br>The MS degree can usually be completed in one to two years through a combination of coursework and research or through coursework only. The curriculum offers a modern emphasis on chemical engineering fundamentals with tailored electives. It is designed to develop fundamental knowledge in chemical engineering core areas.<br>Students who pursue the coursework-based MS degree must earn a minimum of 32 graduate credit hours. Up to 6 credit hours can be from research (optional). Students who choose this option are required to pass an oral exit exam. Most students complete the Plan B program in a year and a half.
