Today and in the years to come, our society must address critical problems that have significant technological aspects, such as energy efficiency and sustainability, safeguarding the environment, producing food, materials, and chemicals, and delivering affordable health care. Chemical engineers are uniquely qualified to address these challenges and opportunities because they apply the principles of chemistry, biology, physics, and math to solve complex problems. The undergraduate Chemical Engineering program at UCSB balances fundamental principles of science and engineering with the practical skills necessary to apply them. As a student, youll be able to take technical electives that allow you to pursue your special interests including energy, biotechnology, chemical product design, materials science, and technology management. As a graduate of our program, youll be able to design and analyze efficient processes involving chemical change, demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in the workplace, take on new responsibilities, and assume leadership roles, and continually develop new skills and knowledge to address evolving societal and technical challenges.
