Bio-Engineering research in the College of Engineering and Applied Science encompasses a wide range of technologies from wheelchair controls to the treatment of retinal disorders to robotics assisted physical therapy. Students graduating with a degree in Bio-Engineering from the University of Wyoming have gone on to work for the military, Microsoft, and GE Aviation, just to name a few. <br><br>Dr. Cam Wright and Dr. Steve Barrett are frequently tapped by the U.S. government to do research on topics critical to improving military needs. One of the most widely recognized is the biomimetic vision sensor, more commonly called the fly eye. Researchers at UW have overcome the need for complicated front-end optical detectors, as well as alleviated much of the computational load required in real-time target tracking. The state of Wyoming has a tremendous need for unsupervised physical therapy rehabilitation strategies. <br><br>Dr. John McInroy along with colleagues at UW is bringing together experts in computer vision, robotics, networks, virtual reality, visualization, and health science to develop a general approach for supervised robotic physical rehabilitation. Forbes magazine ranks Bio-Engineering as the most valuable college major.
