When you pursue your electrical engineering degree, you can expect to gain a solid background in mathematics, science and engineering fundamentals that will make it possible for you to learn and use contemporary knowledge and tools to practice electrical engineering ethically and successfully. Youll develop problem-solving skills to design and build systems, and youll learn to communicate effectively with others inside and outside the profession. As a profession, electrical engineering demands working with others in supporting disciplines to achieve common goals. Design is central to this profession, and is integrated throughout your course work. Youll be encouraged to approach central technical issues with increased awareness of logistical, ethical and social implications. As an electrical engineering major, youll choose from two emphases: Emphasis 1: Electrical and computer engineering Youll receive a strong background in the fundamental fields of electrical engineering with the option to specialize in one field. Specializing in computer engineering provides additional training in software design and hardware/software integration. Emphasis 2: Biomedical engineering Since biomedical engineers work closely with physicians to improve patient care and quality of life, in this emphasis youll take more courses in chemistry and biology. There are two tracks within this emphasis: Biomedical engineering and pre-professional program (pre-medical, dental, pharmacy, optometry).
