All applicants will be reviewed on their academic preparation, graduate school skills and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. M.S. or Ph.D. applicants with also be rated on their research readiness. There are specific questions in the application that address these items. It is very important that you complete these questions in order to be considered for admission. GRE scores are not required for any applicant. However, if you have taken the GRE, you may submit your scores in your application.
A four-year baccalaureate degree (or international equivalent), a professional degree, or an appropriate U.S./Canadian alternative degree, from an regionally accredited (US) or recognized (International) college or university, and a 45-quarter credit equivalent graduate degree from a regionally accredited (US) or recognized (International) college or university, with a cumulative B average (equivalent 3.00 on a U.S. 4.00 grading scale) on the most recent graduate degree.

The discipline of materials science is inherently interdisciplinary, involving fundamental aspects of chemistry, physics, biology, geoscience, agricultural science, mathematics, and engineering.<br><br>Reflecting this character, the materials science program at Oregon State University, initiated in the 1980s, is spread over nine different departments spanning three colleges. This allows students to earn MEng, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in materials science in many different areas of concentration, including all classes of materials, and in a wide range of materials behavior. The course work requirements are extremely flexible to allow students to tailor their program of study to directly support their research activities.<br><br>To be eligible for graduate studies, a baccalaureate or master's degree in science, mathematics, or engineering is required.
