Being broad in nature, the study of materials involves several disciplines including chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, engineering, and business. Principles from all disciplines are embedded in the courses in a cohesive manner. This makes for a varied and stimulating experience, giving students the tools to make a real difference in industry and research. First, by completing this concentration, students will gain a deeper understating of the relationship between materials structure, properties, and performance. Students will apply their fundamental knowledge of materials structure, properties, and performance to a wide range of applications and designs relevant to future work experience. Students will also gain hands-on experience with important characterization and processing techniques via laboratory exercises, as well as with materials engineering design projects.
