Applicants must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited program in engineering physics chemistry applied mathematics or other appropriate program of study Applicants with a different undergraduate degree may be required to complete prerequisites Applicants should have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale Some programs require higher GPAs for admission In some cases applicants with a GPA below 3.0 may be admitted on a conditional basis

Our Master of Science degree is a great way for B.S. engineers or scientists to gain specialization in the ever-growing field of materials science and engineering. Generally most bachelor degrees in engineering and science include only a limited exposure to the processing, properties and microstructure of solid state materials used throughout society. Yet the bulk of engineers and many scientists will at some point in their career become involved with material selection for new products or manufacturing plants, testing and characterization of products, failure analysis, etc. Thus, our master's degree allows students to expand and supplement their current skill set in a relatively short period of time whether they choose a thesis or non-thesis option. Our students include those who recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in engineering or science, as well as those who have been out in industry or the government sector for any period of time and wish to 'start-up again. Most of our classes are offered after 5 p.m. for those working full-time jobs off campus, and some of our courses are offered online. Overall, we have a very flexible program that can accommodate a diverse array of students.<br><br>A minimum of 30 semester hours:<br><br>Thesis option: 24 semester hours of course work (8 classes) and 6 semester hours of research credit<br>Non-thesis option: 30 semester hours of course work (10 classes). (Suggested for International Students.)
