The study of immigration law and policy and its intersections with other subject areas is a fruitful academic and professional path. It touches on a wide range of important policy issues, including: The rules governing legal entry/exit to the U.S., The rules for acquiring citizenship in the U.S.<br>The rights of immigrants within the U.S., The rights of the undocumented, The relationship between the states and the federal government - and among the three branches of government - in a system of shared responsibility. The administrative and judicial procedures used to enforce immigration law.<br><br>The Immigration and Citizenship Law Program supports teaching, scholarship, and public service in immigration law. Curricular opportunities range from substantive and seminar courses in topics related to immigration to skills-based classes, including two clinics specializing in different aspects of immigration law. Scholarship includes faculty and student research and presentations of both published and in-progress work on immigration and citizenship. The program also connects students with lawyers in the community who are involved in community outreach, litigation, or policy work for externships and pro bono projects serving immigrants in order to help them build the skills and networks to become effective immigration lawyers.
