The MLS track in Criminal Law is designed for those employed in, or seeking employment in, the criminal justice system-such as law enforcement officers, probation or parole officers, court employees, and other criminal justice professionals. The foundational course in Criminal Law focuses on the doctrines and principles that define the substance of the criminal law, including the nature and structure of core criminal offenses and defenses. Courses in criminal procedure cover the legal rules governing police conduct in investigating crimes (Criminal Procedure I) and the procedural rules specific to criminal prosecutions (Criminal Procedure II), such as bail, speedy trial, double jeopardy, the right to trial by jury, and the right to counsel. Specialized courses allow students to study in depth in specific areas of interest, such as the death penalty, legal responses to terrorism, white collar crime, federal sentencing, international war crimes, and scientific evidence.​
